Fig Garden Village is getting a new store. Why it may attract shoppers from outside Fresno
Fig Garden Village in Fresno is getting a new store, a Columbia Sportswear shop.
The store will hold its grand opening with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17.
It’s located near Hungry Bear Cookies.
Portland-based Columbia specializes in clothing and shoes for outdoor enthusiasts. It sells clothing for hiking, fishing, skiing, golf and other activities.
Customers can buy jackets – from light fleeces to insulated coats for cold weather – along with tops and bottoms, hiking boots, backpacks, and other outdoor gear.
The store didn’t say exactly why it chose to open in Fresno, but in a press release the company cited the proximity to nearby national parks that draw thousands of people in or through Fresno each year.
“We are excited to bring Columbia Sportswear to Fresno, the gateway to some of the most beautiful National Parks in the nation” said David Lawner, Columbia’s senior vice president of retail.
“Whether you’re gearing up for a hike, a camping trip or a quick visit to Yosemite, Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Parks, Columbia’s performance apparel and footwear will ensure you stay warm, dry, cool and protected no matter the adventure.”
Free stuff, discounts
The grand opening weekend runs Dec. 17-19 and will include several specials, like 25% off an entire purchase. Purchases of $100 or more come with a free Columbia tote.
The store will also host a scratch and win contest on opening weekend, with the chance to win “free Columbia swag.”
Plus, the store is raising money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Valley Children’s Hospital.
Details: The Columbia Sportswear store is at 5098 North Palm Ave. in Fig Garden Village. Grand opening weekend hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 17 and 18, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 19.
