The first ‘Costco of home decor’ is open in the Valley. Here’s what it’s like inside
Something new has come to Clovis: a store called At Home, The Home Decor Superstore.
It’s the fourth At Home store in California and the first in the Fresno area, taking over the former Kmart across the street from Sierra Vista Mall.
The company has 218 stores nationwide, but most are in Texas and the Midwest.
So what exactly is an At Home store?
“Some people say it’s like the Costco of home decor,” said store director Billy Williams.
At 93,257 square feet, the store is huge (though most Costco stores are actually a lot bigger) with wide aisles and maps for the taking in front.
“We’ve got a little bit of everything,” Williams said.
It sells indoor and outdoor furniture, art and wall decor like mirrors, lamps, storage, bedding and bath items, and kitchen supplies.
Right now, the store has a huge selection of patio furniture, including furniture sets, outdoor rugs and extra-large umbrellas in bright colors.
That seasonal area takes up almost a quarter of the store. At the holidays it will convert to Christmas trees and other holiday decor, with a selection rivaling Hobby Lobby’s fabled holiday selection.
Throw pillows come in all sizes and colors, on shelves long enough to span a football field if they were end to end.
In additional to sunburst wall mirrors, framed inspirational quotes and every tchotchke imaginable, the store also has practical items like door mats.
It sells mattresses ranging in price from $99.99 to $149.99.
There’s also an extensive furniture collection featuring dining and living room chairs. There are love seats, arm chairs and a few full-size couches, including a $529 midcentury Modern blue couch.
The store strives for everyday low prices, but does not sell closeout items like HomeGoods, Williams said. Almost everything is under the At Home brand.
A grand opening is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 14. There will be giveaways for the first 50 people who visit the store and sign up for its loyalty program, At Home Insider Perks.
