A new ALDI grocery in Fresno just got one step closer to reality. Here’s the latest
ALDI’s plans just got official.
Word that the uber-popular discount grocery, is coming to Fresno has been circulating for months.
The German grocery store already has a location in Clovis. Now the northwest corner of Shaw and West avenues in Fresno is slated to get one too.
Back in December, The Bee reported that District 2 Councilmember Mike Karbassi, who represents northwest Fresno, had confirmed with the developer that ALDI was planning a store on the site.
The Bee on Wednesday received confirmation that the store has signed a lease with the owner of the property.
According to information submitted by retail brokers to The Fresno Bee’s Leases section that will publish in print Friday, ALDI Food Market has leased two acres of land on the corner from Hinds Investments, LP. Nick Frechou and Michael Arfsten of Retail California were the agents in cooperation with Shane Anderson of Commercial Retail Associates.
ALDI did not immediately return a request for comment about when the store might open. Back when the Clovis store opened at Herndon and Fowler avenues in October, Alexandra Skinkis, ALDI’s director of operations, said the company typically doesn’t talk about new stores until construction has started.
The buildings on the site of the future Fresno ALDI will be torn down to make way for new businesses, according to Karbassi.
A new 7-Eleven and other stores will also be built on the corner with gas pumps, he said.
