Yellow Mug Coffee, an independent coffee shop at Champlain Drive and Perrin Avenue near Save Mart, is closing.

The news was shared on the shop’s Facebook page Wednesday afternoon.

The coffee shop with the cheery yellow umbrellas opened in 2016.

The post said, in part: “This incredible journey wouldn’t have been possible without all of you! However, after profound thought and consideration we have decided to pursue different goals and are closing the business.”

Its last day will be Dec. 31.

The post did not explain why the business is closing and a message left on the shop’s voice mail was not immediately returned.

Yellow Mug was a regular hangout for many customers.

It joins about two dozen businesses that have closed in 2018.

Shortly after it opened, Yellow Mug transformed itself into the fictional Luke’s Diner from the popular TV show “Gilmore Girls” for a day. Hundreds of fans came out for free coffee.

After that showing, Scott Patterson, who played Luke on the show, came back twice in 2017 for a pair of acoustic guitar performances.
