An appearance at a Walmart in Fresno may not be the height of foodie fame, but the “bacon babe” is coming to town, bringing cooking recipes and tips.
Technically the “Fabulous Bacon Babe” (that’s the name of her website), Jodi Taffel is a Los Angeles actress who stumbled into the competitive cooking world with a winning grilled cheese recipe (which of course featured bacon) at the Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational competition.

She likes to cook with bacon, hence the nickname. Taffel hosted an interactive cooking demonstration last weekend at the Kings Canyon Road Walmart that drew hundreds.
She’ll be here again this weekend, this time at the Walmart at 7065 N. Ingram Ave. The event runs from noon to 4:30 p.m. both Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25.
The free event will teach customers how to create affordable competition-grade dishes at home – though it’s not clear how many will feature bacon.
Taffel was the winner of the grilling episode of the Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen” with Alton Brown. She has also competed in the “big bacon battle” episode of Guy Fieri’s “Guy’s Grocery Games,” on the Food Network, and “Farmers’ Market Flip” on the Cooking Channel.
She’s competing in Walmart’s World Food Championships this month. When she’s not competing, she travels the country sharing tips with Walmart shoppers.
