Fresno is about to get a lot more delicious.

Several new national chains are headed for the Fresno-Clovis area serving ice cream sandwiches, Bundt cakes and sandwiches from a Jersey Shore-based shop.

One is here; the others won’t be open for weeks, or months in some cases, but here’s an appetizer of sorts to get you ready for them.

CREAM

CREAM Fresno is probably the most anticipated of the newcomers. It’s an ice cream sandwich shop that makes all its own ice cream and cookies.

It’s a national franchise and this will be the first location in the Central Valley. CREAM Fresno is scheduled to open about June 15 in the Bulldog Plaza Shopping Center at Barstow and Cedar avenues. (This is the same center that has Bulldog Burger Bistro, which opened late last year, so you could hit it up before dessert if you wanted.)

CREAM is short for “cookies rule everything around me,” says franchise owner David Barhum.

CREAM Fresno has about 20 types of fresh-baked cookies, everything from red velvet to double chocolate chip. There are more than 20 kinds of ice cream, from “chocoholic” to strawberry cheesecake. There are vegan and gluten-free options, too. The sandwiches can also be rolled in toppings such as sprinkles.

Nothing Bundt Cakes

Nothing Bundt Cakes is planning to open in August or September at Willow and Herndon avenues near PetSmart. Yes, this is an entire business based around Bundt cakes.

Apparently they are pretty versatile. The cakes here come in 10 flavors, including red velvet, chocolate chocolate chip, lemon and white chocolate raspberry.

The Bundt cakes come in various sizes, including bite-sized “bundtinis,” personal sized “bundtlets” and full size cakes — even stacks of tiered cakes. Each is topped with thick cream cheese frosting and can be decorated for special occasions such as birthdays with pom poms, flowers or little signs.

Jersey Mike’s

A little bit of the Jersey Shore is coming to Clovis — and eventually to Fresno, too.

Jersey Mike’s Subs first restaurant is open at 195 W. Shaw Ave. in Clovis in a former Quiznos on Villa Avenue.

The sub shop founded on the Jersey Shore in the 1950s is planning four more locations. One will open in late summer at the Marketplace at El Paseo near Herndon Avenue and Highway 99. Three more will open in Fresno — one somewhere on Blackstone Avenue — and Clovis, but Jersey Mike’s hasn’t released specific locations yet.

Jersey Mike’s is a traditional fast-casual sub shop with all the familiar sandwiches, including grilled subs. Customers can get “The Juice,” its signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. Some are cleverly named, such as the “Jersey Shore’s Favorite,” a provolone, ham and cappacuolo sub, and there’s several kinds of cheese steak.

Five Guys

Five Guys Burgers and Fries isn’t new to our market (there’s one in River Park), but a second location is coming to the Marketplace at El Paseo, according to developer Chris Shane.

Construction hasn’t started yet, but it should open in a couple of months, he says. It will be built in front of Target near Riverside Drive.
