The Trader Joe’s sign is up at new store. But when will it open?

The sign is up on the new Trader Joe’s store in north Fresno, and people are buzzing about it.

This means the store will open soon, right?

Sorta. You’re probably going to have to wait a few more weeks.

Trader Joe’s is moving and has said it will close its Blackstone and Barstow avenues store one night and reopen the next morning in the new location at Friant Road and Fresno Street.

The new place looks ready to go: The shelves are up and waiting to be stocked, the sign is on the building and even the shopping cart return corrals in the parking lot are ready.

But the store is still planning a mid-February opening. That’s what everyone from employees to Trader Joe’s public relations director is saying.

If you’re a fan of the existing Fresno Trader Joe’s on Blackstone, this is good news. It means you’ll be able to shop there a little longer without schlepping 3.6 miles to the new one.

If you’re one of the people in north Fresno eagerly awaiting the new store (and perhaps tired of driving to the Clovis Trader Joe’s at Willow and Nees avenues), you’ll have to hang in there a little longer.

As always, we’ll let you know when it opens.
