Plaza Ventana, the Mexican restaurant at Shaw and Marks avenues, has closed.

The restaurant’s other location, at 5088 N. Blackstone Ave. just north of Shaw Avenue, will remain open.

The restaurant that closed over the weekend was in the spot near Marks for 27 years. It was known for its margaritas.

The restaurant’s owners posted the news on Plaza Ventana’s Facebook page.

The post read, in part: “Over the course of 41 years in the restaurant business, we have made the business decision to close locations several times due to the ever-changing landscape and needs of conducting business. Our owner, David Borunda, is 76 and planning to cut back his workload.”

Borunda’s son, grandchildren and other family are running the Shaw and Blackstone location, which he invites customers to visit.

Over the years, Plaza Mexican Restaurant – as it used to be known, the Ventana came later – has opened six locations. It was in the Manchester food court for 18 years and Fashion Fair’s for 10.

“We have been blessed with this business,” Borunda said when reached by phone, “and are entirely grateful for all our loyal customers that have followed us through the years.”

The news inspired an immediate reaction from customers on Facebook, who said they would miss the restaurant.
