Longtime Tower District restaurant and bar The Landmark is being sold to a new owner.

Owners Cynthia K. Green and Linda B. Nitzel say they’re trying to lighten their workload. They also own Livingstone’s Restaurant & Pub in the Tower District and will continue to run that business.

Green’s parents opened The Landmark in 1985 and she and business partner Nitzel have run it since 2002.

Green said the decision to sell was made “with a heavy but happy heart.” They posted a long message on The Landmark’s Facebook page about the change.

“We want to focus on Livingstone’s,” Green said Wednesday, adding that they manage 70 employees between the two locations.

T.J. Bruce of Sacramento is buying The Landmark and its building and will take over Sept. 28.

Bruce has owned several restaurants and bars in various cities, including gay bar The Depot and gay nightclub Badlands, both in Sacramento.

He did not return calls seeking comment Wednesday but Green said that “he is going to keep it the same and he’s going to spruce it up and he’s going to change the menu.”

Green said they were picky about choosing a buyer and found someone who “just seems like he’s going to do the neighborhood and do the building justice.”
