Fresno’s newest Wahoo’s different than any other

You may be familiar with Wahoo’s, but the newest Wahoo’s to open in Fresno is unlike any other.

Wahoo’s Tacos & More – it dropped the fish tacos reference from its name – opened its latest location at The Square at Campus Pointe, the new development at Fresno State. There are now four restaurants to choose from at the center at Chestnut and Shaw avenues.

This Wahoo’s has a full bar and a bar menu with cocktails and appetizers. A couple of Wahoo’s in southern California have bars, but the new Fresno location is the only one nationwide with a full-service bar, meaning waiters and waitresses take your order at bar tables or any of the high-top tables at the restaurant’s patio.

The patio, by the way, is huge, seating 100 people and facing the square in the middle of the center. It has ceiling fans and TVs.

Customers can still opt for the quick-service style of dining. Just order at the cash registers in front instead of sitting down at a table.

With the new bar comes new drinks. Three kinds of Moscow mules are on the menu – the drink made with ginger beer and served in a copper cup – along with $3 draft beers and a flight of tequila.

The bar brings new food with it, too. The chile verde quesadilla is a popular one. Also new are the sweet chile-glazed chicken wings and spicy bacon jalapeno rolls, which are made with grilled chicken and wrapped in a flour tortilla.

All the traditional Wahoo’s food – from those fish tacos to vegan options – are still on the menu.

This Wahoo’s, and the one at Palm and Nees avenues, are owned by the Benevedes family. The family also owns six Cold Stone Creamery locations, including the one that just opened next door.
