New Starbucks — with massive lounge — and a Panda Express open in Clovis
Two national chains have expanded their presence in Clovis, including the opening of one of the larger Starbucks locations in California.
Where’s the new, big Starbucks located?
It’s at the corner of Bullard and Minnewawa avenues in the Crossroads Shopping Center, featuring a completely remodeled 3,700 square-foot space to entice customers to enjoy their drinks inside the coffeehouse.
This Starbucks opened Sept. 18.
Meanwhile, a new Panda Express held a grand opening Wednesday just east of the Shaw and DeWolf avenues intersection in the Loma Vista Marketplace.
The newest openings bring a total of 15 Starbucks shops (including two inside a Target and one inside a Vons) and four Panda Express restaurants in Clovis.
And while both national chains have other locations within five miles of their newest spots, the newer locations help serve a different base clientele, while also providing convenience.
“We have another Panda Express down the street that opened in May, but it’s a very different market from this one,” said Kae Steadman, general manager of the Clovis-based Panda Express operations. “This one is closer to the neighborhoods, by the families.
“We get to build this in the heart of the community, and being down the street from the high school (Clovis East).”
The new Panda Express restaurant has helped generate 40 new jobs.
It was not immediately known how many jobs were created from the new Starbucks at Minnewawa and Bullard.
The new Starbucks shop does come at an awkward time with the corporate office announcing a $1 billion restructuring plan that’ll involve closing some of its coffeehouses and laying off workers.
Starbucks announced it would lay off about 900 nonretail employees.
Starbucks did not list which stores would close.
