After eight years of crafting beer, seltzers and wine in Paso Robles, Silva Brewing will shut its doors for good this weekend.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, co-founder Chuck Silva said he noticed increased costs and less consumer travel and interest in specialty-crafted beers.

So he decided to close the brewery.

“Craft beer doesn’t quite have the air of discovery that it used to be,” Silva told the Tribune. “It’s not so much a kind of entertainment value to seek out and discover new beers like it used to be.”

Silva made the announcement on Instagram with 50 saddened comments from customers and local breweries reflecting on the business’s years of success.

“From day one you brought legitimacy and respect to our region and attracted untold beer lovers to Paso,” a comment from Paso Robles Brewing Company said. “The local craft beer scene will not be the same without you in it.”

Silva Brewing opened in 2016 at 525 Pine St. in Paso Robles.

It brewed nearly 600 batches of beer and released 50 different beer styles, as well as seltzers and wines, during its near decade of operation, Silva said.

When is final pour at Silva Brewing in Paso Robles?

This weekend is Silva Brewing’s last, with its final pour day on Saturday.

Silva said it will be a day of celebrating and commiserating the closure.

Tacos from a local caterer will accompany the final pints of beer, he added.

“We’re just going to continue with serving our high-quality beer, and I think people are going to come out and support,” he said. “It’ll be a nice way to have a send-off.”

Silva Brewery will continue to sell fresh beer through December and January to local restaurants and bars until it’s sold out, Silva said.

What’s next for owner of closing Paso Robles business?

Silva said he does not know what’s in store for the future but is open to opportunities.

“Some people ask what’s next for me, and I really don’t know,” he said. “It’d be smart if I stick with my strengths and continue to create beverages of impactful flavor.”
