One of the most popular Mexican bakeries in the Fresno area has reopened after moving locations.

Panaderia Café Oaxaca, which specializes in pan dulce (Mexican sweet breads) like conchas and cuernitos, held its grand opening Saturday at its new store at 2331 Villa Avenue.

It’s in the same shopping center as the Regal UA Clovis theater, near Shaw Avenue in Clovis.

The mom-and-pop bakery, which has been around since 2010, was closed for three weeks while transitioning from its previous spot at the corner of Clovis and Barstow avenues.

Now in a bigger location, Café Oaxaca is once again selling its variety of Mexican pastries that’s made the bakery a popular choice at catered events like quinceañeras.

Among its more popular selections is tres leches cake slices.

In addition, the bakery added a few more items to its menu like tortas and other hot food items, as well as a selection of Mexican coffees and teas.

“Because we have more space at this location, customers have the option to eat inside,” said Rosi Garcia, the daughter of the Cafe Oaxaca owners. “The other place, we only offered food to-go.”

The bakery also wasn’t allowed to sell hot drinks at its old location under its previous lease agreement so it wouldn’t compete with the 7-Eleven next door.

But at the new location, the bakery is serving drinks like cafe de olla (coffee with cinnamon, sugar), horchata latte (mildly sweet and creamy beverage), and dulce de leche latte (dulce de leche, milk and espresso).

“Pastries and coffee just go together,” Garcia said. “We’re offering specifically drinks you’d get in Mexico City.”

Cafe Oaxaca also prides itself by offering vegan pastry options and not cooking with lard for any of its products.

“I feel like a lot of people like us; we have an obsession with pastries,” Garcia said. “Cafe Oaxaca helps us satisfy that sweet tooth.”
