Hot dogs on the menu in Fresno, Three Rivers

Nothing says summer like hot dogs and there are plenty of places to get them this weekend.

There are hot dogs cooked up by firefighters at a fundraiser in Three Rivers, hot dogs and a beer available in Fresno, and Wienerschnitzel is selling its new loaded-up chili cheese dogs at its restaurants.

First, the Hot Dog Festival in Three Rivers that started years ago as a little fundraiser is gearing up to sell about 600 hot dogs this weekend.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Three Rivers Historical Museum, 42268 Sierra Drive. Money made at the event goes to the museum and Three Rivers volunteer firefighters.

Those firefighters also will be doing the cooking and serving up hot dogs, Polish sausage dogs and veggie dogs with all the fixings. For $7, visitors get a dog, corn on the cob and a root beer float.

The floats come from the A&W Floatmobile, a bright orange restored 1947 milk truck modified to serve floats.

If Three Rivers is too far away, there are plenty of places to get hot dogs in Fresno.

If you’re in the mood for a beer with your hot dog, you can get both at Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company in Fresno on Friday, July 10.

Locally owned Weenies on Wheels will be serving up its bacon-wrapped quarter-pound Nathan’s hot dogs with grilled onions, jalapenos and other options such as grilled pineapple.

The food cart will be at Tioga’s outdoor beer garden, 745 Fulton St., from about 5-10 p.m.

In the Tower District, Chicago dogs are the top seller at Richie’s Pizza & Hot Dogs lately, surpassing even the popular pizza dog.

The Chicago dog is all-beef hot dog piled with sweet relish, onion, tomato, a pickle spear, peppers and celery salt on a Max’s poppyseed bun. The dog and a soda are available for $6.50. Richie’s is at 844 E. Olive Ave.

Also, area Wienerschnitzel restaurants have introduced five new chili cheese dogs for a limited time. The amped-up take on its standard chili cheese dog includes:

• The Buffalo bacon chili cheese dog with chopped bacon, peppers and Frank’s Buffalo wing sauce.
• The triple cheese double bacon chili dog with a double portion of chopped bacon and slices of American cheese.
• The bacon ranch chili cheese dog with chopped bacon and creamy ranch dressing.
• The Works chili cheese dog with mustard, sliced tomato and a pickle spear.
• The loaded bacon street chili cheese dog with chopped bacon, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise and grilled onions.
