How many corn dogs – and bugs – do you think were eaten at the Big Fresno Fair?
How much do we love fair food? Well, according to some fun facts released by the Big Fresno Fair, we like it a lot.
Here’s a quick rundown. We chowed down on nearly 45,000 regular and jumbo corn dogs, 3,600 Indian tacos and 5,000 bags of Kettle Korn.
We even ate bugs. One of the fair’s new exhibits was Bug-Ology and as part of that people got the chance to nibble on insects, including chocolate dipped June bugs.
Fair officials estimated that 10,000 bugs were sampled during the 12-day run of the fair that ended Sunday.
Breaking down the food facts even more, the famous Country Fair Cinnamon Rolls used nearly 15,000 pounds of cream cheese, 6,100 pounds of butter and 39,000 pounds of flour.
Fans of Kettle Korn love that sweet, salty taste of the freshly made pop corn. And it’s no wonder, they used about 100,000 pounds of sugar. That is about the same weight of eight Asian elephants.
To be fair, we also chewed through 5,000 pounds of vegetables at Chicken Charlie’s booth and 2,000 pineapples for his chicken and shrimp pineapple rice bowls.
The more adventurous eaters downed more than 1,000 of Chicken Charlie’s latest concoction: the Krispy Kreme and chicken ice cream sandwich.
Even vegetarians and vegans had a few options, although they may not have been very hungry at the fair. Only 150 tofu corn dogs were sold.
