Women’s Conference awards scholarships
Twenty high school students will be honored as part of the Central California Women’s Conference/Wells Fargo College and Career Preparation scholarship program at 5 p.m. May 15 at Arte Americas, 1630 Van Ness Ave. The students were selected by their high school counselors and attend Central High School East Campus, Fresno High School, McLane High School and Sanger High School. The students will also be honored at the 29th annual Central California Women’s Conference on Sept. 20.

Society’s Spring Fling is May 22
American Historical Society of Germans from Russia will be holding a Spring Fling at 12:30 p.m. May 22 at Pardini’s, 2257 W. Shaw Ave. in Fresno. What makes you remember your family? Is it an object, a photo, a joke or story? Come tell your story. There will be a 50/50 drawing. $25 per person for lunch, reservations deadline is May 15. You may purchase your tickets at AHSGR office, 3233 N. West Ave. in Fresno.

Library receives grant
The Riverdale Library has received a Book-To-Action grant from Fresno County Public Library which encourages the community to read the chosen book and engage in activity. This year’s theme is “wildlife” and the library will receive 75 copies of “Love, Life and Elephants: An African Love Story” for adults and 75 copies of “Owen & Mzee: Language of Friendship” for children. Fresno Chaffee Zoo and Fresno Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Service will lead discussions 11 a.m. to noon May 14 for all ages; 4 to 5 p.m. May 19 for children; and 11 a.m. to noon June 4 for all ages.

MCaffrey donates to Madera High
McCaffrey Homes was honored by Madera High School students for donating $3,000 to their class. The Social Skills Autism class thanked the company with a large, handmade mosaic that represents its logo. The gift will be displayed at a new model home center under construction in Riverstone.
Women Voters lunch May 17
The League of Women Voters will hold its annual luncheon at noon May 17 at Wyndham Hotel, 9000 Airport Way. Dr. Andrew Fiala is a professor at of philosophy and director of ethics at Fresno State and will speak on “Civility: A Central Value of Democratic Societies.” Tickets cost $20.
