Democrats to hear from Harris
Fresno County Democratic Women’s Club will hold the Democrats in Action fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Pardini’s, 2257 W. Shaw Ave. Attorney General Kamala Harris will speak. Tickets cost $75 or $85 at the door.
The club will hold their monthly meeting 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 22 at Ramada Inn, 324 E. Shaw Ave. Educator Mai Summer Vue will speak. Tickets cost $20.

GOP women to study fracking
Fresno County & City Republican Women Federated will hold their meeting at 11:15 a.m. Feb. 25 at Ramada Inn, 324 E. Shaw Ave. Tracy Leach, director of Kern Citizens for Energy will speak on “Fracking – Facts, Fiction and Fighting for America’s Energy Independence.” Lunch costs $20.

Rotary awards $250 to Bellezza
The Rotary Club of Fresno has awarded $250 to the Fresno Christian Ladies Ensemble, Bellezza. The group of advanced musicians ages 14-18 will use the money to help cover costs to sing with the National Youth Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City in April.

SPCA offers Valentine special
Central California SPCA will hold a furry Valentine adoption special through Feb. 14 at the adoption center and all offsite locations. All dogs and puppies are $39 and include spay or neuter, dog license, vaccinations, flea/tick preventive medications and more.

Ag leaders benefit Poverello
California Agricultural Leadership Program’s Class 45 donated $100,000 to the Poverello House on Feb. 6. The Poverello House will use the money to purchase a food truck to provide hot meals in the community.
Bank of the Sierra donates $175,000
Bank of the Sierra distributed over $175,000 to a variety of nonprofit organizations in the six counties it serves throughout 2015. A wide variety of projects received grants, including initiatives to help underprivileged children and seniors, housing and community building projects, cultural and educational initiatives and more.
Miltary retirees to be honored
Military retirees are invited to Retiree Appreciation Day 8 a.m.-noon March 19 at American Legion Post 509, 3509 N. First St. Information will be given on a variety of topics, including retired pay, medical and Medicare benefits.

Visalia Chamber accepting nominations
Visalia Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 63rd Annual Awards Celebration from community and business members to honor the businesses and individuals who help the community thrive. Nominations can be made in seven different categories: 2016 Man of the Year, 2016 Woman of the Year, Emerging Leader, Non-Profit of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Medium Business of the Year, and Large Business of the Year. Deadline for submissions is March 15 and the chamber will announce the winners June 16 at the Visalia Convention Center.
