Celebrate Banned Books Week with, well, a book
The Fresno County Library’s Bookshelf column shares suggestions for books, music, and other items, and provides information about library programs.

This event is sponsored annually by the American Library Association. Defend your freedom to read by selecting a frequently-challenged classic, such as:

Events
▪ Live Music with Acoustic Highway: Listen to this local group play classic tunes and 1960s rock. All are welcome, but seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served. 6-7:15 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28, at the Sanger Branch Library. Details: 559-875-2435.
▪ Banned Books Week Movie Night: On Wednesday, Sept. 30, come see “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (3-5:45 p.m., Fowler Branch Library, 559-600-9281) or “Bridge to Terabithia” (6-8:30 p.m., Woodward Park Regional Library, 559-600-3135).
▪ Dia de los Muertos Kickoff: Remember the departed and see a traditional Oaxacan altar honoring prominent Selman Sal Salazar. This event is co-sponsored with Arte Americas. Refreshments will be served. 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Selma Branch Library. Details: 559-896-3393.
