Jonathon Marc Mendes Flipped a Free Dilapidated Dresser
As Jonathon Marc Mendes explained in his YouTube video, he found a solid pinewood dresser for free on the side of the road with a side that read "take me." The dresser, which had been painted white, was missing a knob and two drawers, was covered in dirt and scuff marks and was quite short. However, Mendes knew he could bring it back to life.
One of the biggest issues with the pieces was the two missing drawers - and rather than building knew drawers, Mendes decided to turn the empty drawer spaces into open shelving. To do this, he needed to cover up the drawer tracks, which he did by glueing new small pieces of wood around the edges of each shelf. Then, he filled in the empty space on each shelf with flat pieces of timber to make the entire shelf even. Once he did this to both shelves, he used a similar technique to repair the sides of the shelves.
He also felt that the dresser was too short, so he decided to add feet to each bottom corner to give the piece some more height. He chose four simple wood feet for this.
Once all these repairs were done, he got to work upgrading the tabletop with a new wood stain and color wash. Next, he mixed together chalk paints in the shades Provence, Paprika and Old White by Annie Sloan, which came together to create a lovely dusty rose shade of pink. He then painted the entire piece and feet with the pink hue, but left the tabletop and new drawer pulls a natural wood - and the dresser was complete!
This Flip Turned a Garbage-Bound Dresser Into Something New and Lovely
Mendes was thrilled how this flip turned out - and so were his loyal YouTube followers.
"It makes my heart happy to see someone save a piece of furniture and beautify it! She's gorgeous!" someone commented. "My favorite type of project! Something that was likely going to the landfill, turned into something beautiful," another commenter added.
"Thank you for the step by step tutorial on how you made the inside of the cabinet look amazing. I have a similar project and could NOT figure out what to do with the inside - now I know!" wrote another commenter.
