Backstage Update: Former WWE Champion Reportedly Set to Debut for TNA at Slammiversary

After releasing several big-name talents earlier this month, TNA Wrestling has reportedly made a giant splash on the free agent market.

Earlier this month, TNA released Tommy Dreamer, Myla Grace, Aiden Prince and a trio of former world champions in Steve Maclin, Tessa Blanchard and Sami Callihan. Dreamer, Callihan and Prince were working backstage roles for TNA at the time of their releases

Fortunately for TNA fans, it appears the promotion has landed a notable name ahead of Sunday's Slammiversary pay-per-view.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, a former WWE superstar will debut for TNA at Slammiversary. Johnson heard that the wrestler is a "former multi-time singles champion," but little else is known beyond that

Slammiversary 2026 will be held at Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Last year's pay-per-view was held inside the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Six Championship Matches Are on the Slammiversary 2026 Card

So far, TNA has announced nine matches for Slammiversary 2026, including six championship bouts. Mike Santana will defend the TNA World Championship against Nic Nemeth, previously known as "Dolph Ziggler" in WWE.

The other title matches are: Léi Yǐng Lee vs. Xia Brookside for the TNA Knockouts World Championship, Rosemary and Allie vs. the Elegance Brand for the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championships, the Hardys vs. the Righteous vs. the System in a ladder match for the TNA World Tag Team Championships, Leon Slater vs. Mr. Elegance vs. KC Navarro vs. Amazing Red vs. Cedric Alexander vs. Fabian Aichner vs. Frankie Kazarian for the TNA X Division Championship and Mustafa Ali vs. an open challenger for the TNA International Championship.
