A World Cup bracelet giveaway has taken a second life in the resale market

Tickets are not the only World Cup item taking on a new life in the resale market.

Bank of America’s beaded bracelets, which the bank has been giving away at World Cup stadiums and fan zones during the tournament, have gone viral and are selling for $60 on sites such as eBay. One is listed for $500 on Poshmark.

Bank of America said the giveaway includes 140 custom-designed beads and more than 2 million free bracelets in red, blue and black. The company said it plans to distribute more than 10 million bands nationwide in the 11 U.S. host cities, including the San Francisco Bay Area.

On June 19, hundreds of people lined up at the Bank of America booth to get two bracelets each. Fans were presented with seven bead options, including Mexico, the U.S., Canada, FIFA, the Bay Area and one each for the teams playing that day, Paraguay and Turkey. Some 50 people were still lined up at the booth an hour after the end of the game. A staff member said they expected to give away about 10,000 bracelets for the day, up from 6,000 during the first World Cup match in the Bay Area between Qatar and Switzerland on June 13.

Bank of America plans to give away more beads and bracelets during the rest of the World Cup matches at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, including the June 22 match between Jordan and Algeria, and the June 25 match between Paraguay and Australia. The U.S. men’s national team will play a round of 32 match at Levi’s Stadium against a still-unknown third-place finisher.

The company said it expects to give away its entire supply by the time the final whistle blows.

If you don’t have a ticket for these games, you can also get Bank of America’s bracelets at these fan zones:

  • June 22 and 24: SFBA Fan Zone, Mission Rock (San Francisco)
  • June 25: SFBA Fan Zone, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
  • June 28-30: Redwood City Fan Zone, Courthouse Square
