Livestock guardian dogs work hard, day and night, to make sure farm animals are safe. Farm animals are part of your family: their safety is so important! Even more than that, though, the animals are often both a hefty investment and a source of income. Losing them would be awful.

One farm has some livestock guardian dogs, and they're just the best. Though the daytime is supposed to be the time they're relaxing after a long night shift, they'll perk up at even the inkling of a threat. That's exactly what happened for one Great Pyrenees:

Stefanie Kirk clearly lucked out in this department. That dog knows exactly what she's doing, and she's not willing to go easy on any animal at all. Though Stefanie never said exactly what the predator actually was, commenters figured out that it's a Fox Squirrel.

Was it the biggest predator of all time? No, but that's not what matters: it's the instinct that does. She wasted no time getting up and chasing it as far away from the farm as she could, no matter what it was. That's exactly what a good dog should do!

This heroic dog's name is Xena, and she's not just a fearless livestock guardian dog. She's also beautiful and very well-loved by her mom, who makes sure she always has what she needs to succeed:

She's responsible for cows! How cool is that?! You might not think that cows really need that; they're huge! Some predators are huge and incredibly persistent. You never know what could happen, and Xena makes sure that doesn't happen.

Are Fox Squirrels Dangerous?

Xena chased off one large Fox Squirrel. While it's easy to think that's nothing special, that's actually not the case!

While a Fox Squirrel won't go after your farm animals like an actual fox would, they're also not an animal you want to have around your farm. They cause damage in other ways, like:

  • Getting into your crops and chewing them up.
  • Nesting in your barn.
  • Raiding animal feed bins and contaminating the food.
  • Chewing up wires on expensive equipment.

Xena did the right thing by chasing this guy off! Honestly, she makes me want a livestock guardian dog for my bird feeders!
