Getting dogs to take medication can sometimes feel like participating in an Olympic event nobody asked for. Dog parents everywhere have hidden pills in peanut butter, cheese, hot dogs and approximately seventeen other foods, only to watch their pets somehow spit out the one thing they're supposed to eat.

Which is why one clever Dachshund mom may have accidentally discovered the funniest solution imaginable. And honestly, I can't believe how well it worked.

The hilarious clip was shared by the TikTok account for @dora_.the_.explorerr and stars Louie, an adorable cream, long-haired Dachshund who apparently suffers from a very common canine condition known as "wanting whatever Mom has."

In the video, Louie's dog mom pretends to eat his flea medication herself before dramatically dropping it on the floor.

Then she starts protesting.

"No! Don't get it! Oh no!"

Naturally, Louie interprets this as the greatest game ever invented and immediately races over to gobble up the forbidden treasure.

Honestly, dogs really do want whatever they're not supposed to have.

The comments section was cracking up:

  • "I tried this and my dog looked at me like I'm stupid."
  • "Wait, this is so smart."
  • "Okay delete this so my dog doesn't see it."

And honestly, that last comment made me laugh the hardest.

Because somehow dogs can ignore expensive treats you've purchased specifically for them, yet become absolutely obsessed with a random sock, a leaf or something they just watched you "accidentally" drop.

As someone who has been a cat and dog mom long enough to understand that reverse psychology sometimes works better than logic, I have to admit this mom might be onto something.

Louie certainly seemed convinced.

Many veterinarians recommend hiding pills inside dog-safe foods like pill pockets, peanut butter or cheese. Some dogs also respond well to praise, treats and making medication time feel positive.

Always check with your veterinarian before crushing pills or mixing medications with food since some prescriptions work best when given whole.

And apparently, if all else fails, simply convince your dog they're stealing something.
