These Alpacas Found the Perfect Way To Cool off This Summer
It's summertime (almost), which means animal parents everywhere are finding creative ways to help their pets beat the heat. I've seen plenty of videos of dogs cooling off in sprinklers and swimming pools, but alpacas enjoying a splash pad? That was a first for me.
In a recent TikTok video shared by Peppergrass Ranch in Utah, a group of alpacas got to try out one of the viral splash pads their mom had been seeing all over social media. Judging by their reactions, I'd say it was money well spent.
@peppergrassranch I'm not kidding when I tell you I was sent the videos of alpacas in this splash pad hundreds of times! The boys absolutely loved it! Macaroni preferred the hose, but everyone had a great time in the heat! #peppergrassranch#splashpad#alpaca#summertimefun

Each alpaca seemed to have their own unique approach to splash pad fun. Cheese was by far the most enthusiastic of the bunch. He couldn't get enough of the spray, bouncing around with little hops and happy shimmies before circling back for extra turns.
Bake took a completely different approach. Rather than treating the splash pad like a playground, he decided it was more of a spa experience. As soon as it was his turn, he plopped down on his belly and soaked up the cool water as if he were relaxing in his own personal swimming pool.

Of the five alpacas, one holdout wasn't fully sold on the splash pad. According to Mom, Macaroni prefers being sprayed directly with the hose nozzle. Honestly, I can't blame him. By the time his turn came around, the water in the splash pad looked a little murky and less inviting than when Cheese first jumped in!
How To Keep Your Pets Cool This Summer
As the weather heats up, pet parents have to be on top of their game to keep their animals cool while still allowing them their much-needed time outside. Here are a few things you can do to help keep your crew safe in the summer heat:
- Make sure you offer plenty of clean, fresh drinking water for your pets both indoors and outdoors. You can even add a few ice cubes to keep it really cold!
- It's important to provide shaded areas for your animals, especially if they are spending extra time outside during the summer months.
- Try to avoid taking your pet outside during the peak heat hours each day. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times for them to get their outdoor time when it's hot.
