GVRD kicks off Bite Night Thursdays for the summer
Bite Night is back for a fourth year, bringing free food, activities, and entertainment to families at Children's Wonderland, starting Thursday night.
Bite Night will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Children's Wonderland. Admission is free.
Each Bite Night will feature a rotating lineup of local food trucks, themed activities, live DJ music, and interactive games.
"This is really about community and activation of our parks. We want to provide Vallejo residents the opportunity to not only recreate but to gather with friends and family during the summertime to have somewhere to go other than your traditional locations," Greater Vallejo Recreation District Recreation Services Director Antony Ryans said.
Each theme was selected based on previous hits and survey responses.
"A lot of people really loved face painting. They loved the bounce houses and the DJs. So we tried to incorporate that in each of the themes," said Ryans.
Ryans added that GVRD will usually begin to plan Bite Night events as early as January, with planning usually taking up to five to six months.
The biggest element is securing food trucks early.
"We actually used to have Bite Night on Tuesdays under a different name. But we noticed that the attendance fluctuated at the Tuesday events. So we rebranded the series, moved it to Thursday, and each night we have a different theme," said Ryans.
This Thursday's theme is Color Craze Carnival.
Kids can enjoy an obstacle course, face painting, bounce houses, and other lawn activities, as well as upbeat music from a DJ, and a variety of food trucks will be available.
"For food, family-oriented fun, and a safe environment, Bite Night is the place to go," Ryans said. "It provides different people within the community an opportunity to try different foods that are coming from different areas. It has a little bit of everything for everyone.
"These events wouldn't be possible and free without the city of Vallejo and Measure P funding," added Ryans.
For Thursday's Color Craze Carnival, guests will have the opportunity to choose from three food trucks: AsianBurger, The Fry Boys, and Limitless Kitchen. Cowtown Creamery will provide ice cream and dessert options.
The next Bite Night will be on July 2 with a "Stars, Stripes & Splash" theme.
