This Bear Spent Over 20 Years in a Cage-Watch the Moment She Finally Feels Joy
In the wild, Brown Bears need about 100 square miles of territory to thrive. This gives them space to eat, find a mate, and hibernate safely. Mici never had the opportunity to explore an area bigger than her small cage. She lived for 23 years by a restaurant in Slovenia, where keeping bears in captivity as a tourist attraction (or for bile) is common.
Luckily, Four Paws came to her rescue. The website explains that they've had their eye on Mici for years, and the restaurant owner finally agreed to let Mici go free. As we see in the clip, this big bear has now found her joy. She now lives in a bear sanctuary that provides for all her needs and then some.
@fourpaws.au Mici waited 23 years for this joy. Mici spent her entire life trapped beside a restaurant in Bled, Slovenia until FOUR PAWS rescued her last year and opened the door to a new beginning. Now she's thriving: exploring her outdoor sanctuary, splashing in the pond and loving her meals with her big appetite. She's even going through a seasonal fur change, giving us some very funny looks right now. Hear from Gerlinde at BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach about Mici's incredible comeback story. AnimalRescue FeelGood

The video features Mici playing in the snow, rolling in a leaf pile, and sliding on her frozen pond. In six months, she's transformed from shy to outgoing, according to her keepers. Mici especially seems to like balls, and the team is looking forward to watching her play in the pool during the summer.
Her "incredible comeback story," as the caption calls it, is refreshing and energizing.

How Four Paws Australia Is Changing Lives
Four Paws sums up its mission perfectly: "FOUR PAWS is the global animal welfare organization for animals under direct human influence, which reveals suffering, rescues animals in need, and protects them. Our vision is a world where humans treat animals with respect, empathy, and understanding." We can absolutely get behind that.
The crew at Four Paws works tirelessly to find and rescue animals who are in unsafe or inhumane conditions. This includes helping wild beasties, neutering stray dogs and cats, and saving farm animals. Other times, the organization steps in after natural disasters or in conflict zones.
Some, like Mici, live in small cages and don't have access to proper care. Once rescued, many travel to a sanctuary to live peacefully. Thankfully, Mici has found her freedom and can live another 23 years in her new home.
