McDonald's Brings Back a Classic, and Social Media Expresses Hilarious Concern
As Americans continue to gear up for the 250th birthday of the United States, McDonald's is joining in on the action by bringing back a menu item that lovers of the fast-food chain haven't seen in over three decades. Of course, any time a chain as well-known and established as McDonald's announces the return of a popular menu item, many fans of nostalgia can't help but squeal in excitement, thinking about the good old days of chowing down on a classic. However, with this particular food option, the nostalgia also brings about a hilarious concern on social media about what its return could mean.
McDonald's Brings Back the Fried Apple Pie
Starting on June 23, McDonald's is bringing back its fried apple pies to participating locations. The popular dessert item was phased out in 1992 and replaced with the baked apple pies (which, if you're like me, you mistakenly thought were the same thing). Per McDonald's press announcement:
"The OG Fried Apple Pie is back at participating restaurants nationwide for a limited time. The all-day menu item features our signature filling made with 100% American-grown apples, wrapped in the same golden crunch and flaky fried crust fans remember – or soon won't forget."
Not only is the fried take on America's favorite pie back, but McDonald's is also going to debut a 35-foot Fried Apple Pie on June 23 in a special event in Chicagoland from 3:30-6:00 PM CT. The festivities will include live music and complimentary Arch Cards.
Social Media Laughs: Remembering the Hot Fried Apple Pie Filling
Users on social media are recalling their memories of eating a hot fried apple pie, and it appears "hot" is the keyword. People are commenting on the past temperature of the pie filling and wondering if the pies would again offer up that kind of heat. Take a look at just a few comments found on X (formerly Twitter).
Will the new McDonald's apple pie still be as hot as the surface of the sun?

My favorite thing to do when I was in high school was to go grab one of these and a plain cup of McDonald's soft serve, plunge the hot-as-lava (if you were lucky) pie into the ice cream, and have ghetto à la mode. https://t.co/CHWvgcjwqo

I often got McDonald's gift certificates as my Christmas tip, from customers on my paper routes back in the day.

And the molten-lava Hot Apple Pie was a go-to. Burn marks or no. pic.twitter.com/0H5AlR5OVJ

So the only question that remains is if you will actually be in line to get your McDonald's fried apple pie? Not for nothing, one social media user's suggestion of dipping the pie in McDonald's soft serve sounds intriguing.
