Carolina Hurricanes Admin Brutally Roasts John Tortorella Over Failed Game 7 Guarantee

The Carolina Hurricanes' social media admin couldn't help but rub more salt into the wounds of Vegas Golden Knights head coach John Tortorella following their Stanley Cup triumph on Sunday.

Carolina defeated Vegas 3-0 in Game 6 on Sunday to capture the Stanley Cup for the first time in 20 years. Brandon Bussi pitched a 22-save shutout, and Taylor Hall's first-period goal was all Carolina needed to close out the Golden Knights.

Unfortunately for 'Torts', the Hurricanes didn't forget his failed promise of a Game 7.

Following their 4-2 loss to Carolina in Game 5 on Thursday, Tortorella said he was leaving his clothes at the hotel, guaranteeing a Game 7 that would have been played on Wednesday:

How did the Hurricanes' social media team respond to that after Game 6?

The folks who run the Hurricanes' social media pages have always had a way with humor and witty comebacks. Tortorella had all the confidence in the world that his players would get it done in Game 6, but the superior and resilient Hurricanes had other ideas.

John Tortorella Isn't Sure if He'll Return to Vegas Next Season

Tortorella replaced Bruce Cassidy behind the bench on March 29, leading Vegas to a 7-0-1 finish to wrap up a second straight Pacific Division crown. Having gotten the club within two wins of a championship, one would assume that Torts' return is a no-brainer.

Per Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com, Tortorella wasn't ready to discuss his immediate future with the Golden Knights after Sunday's heartbreaking defeat.

"I haven't even...I've got to swallow this a little bit," Tortorella said. "I feel very fortunate how this all came about, and just kind of in a weird way at the end of the year. And then to get locked in with these guys, I just feel fortunate to get to know the team, get to know the organization, first-class organization, and just to have the opportunity.

"Like I said, I've wanted to coach, I want to coach. And to jump into this with this gang, I feel so fortunate."

On the surface, bringing back Tortorella feels like an easy call for Vegas. Then again, nobody saw them firing Cassidy with only eight regular-season games remaining.
