Netflix Appears to Have 'Quietly Shelved' Beloved Show After Just 2 Seasons

Netflix delivers over 700 original titles to its more than 200 million monthly users, but not every show can be a hit.

Eventually the shows that don't deliver enough viewership run their course on the streaming giant and it appears Tex Mex Motors did just that. The show, beloved by its avid fanbase, released its six-episode second season in late 2024.

The second season of the series was overshadowed by the death of star Rob "Rabbit" Pitts, who lost a battle with stomach cancer in August 2024. Nearly two years later, members of the cast have made it clear there have been no indications the show will be back for a third season, per What's on Netflix.

Will 'Tex Mex Motors' Be Back for Third Season?

All signs point to "no."

"While Netflix hasn't stamped Tex Mex Motors with an official 'Canceled' label, all the signs point to the show being quietly shelved. Between the lack of crew activity, the cast waiting by the phone, and the recent axing of Car Masters, fans should probably consider Season 2 the final lap for the El Paso crew," What's on Netflix reported.

"So far, we have found absolutely zero evidence that Tex Mex Motors is in pre-production, currently filming, or scheduling a shoot."

Another Car Series Was Recently Canceled

The all things Netflix website also speculated on Netflix potentially changing its mind on automotive reality shows following the cancellation of Car Masters: Rust to Riches.

"For a long time, Car Masters was the flagship gearhead show on the platform," What's on Netflix said. "The fact that Netflix is pulling the plug on its longest-running car restoration series suggests that the streaming service may be re-evaluating the genre's return on investment or pivoting away from this specific style of unscripted programming altogether."

Netflix appears ready to turn the page on automotive series.
