Steve Toussaint Shares Update on 'Game of Thrones' Sea Snake Spin-off Series

George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is chock-full of fascinating, nuanced characters. One character, in particular, has an exciting backstory, as highlighted in Martin's 2018 Targaryen compendium, Fire & Blood. Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake, is even at the center of one of the Game of Thronesspin-offs in the works. Titled Nine Voyages, the animated series would chronicle the Sea Snake's nine great voyages across the world.

Over five years after it was first announced that the series was under consideration at HBO, Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys in House of the Dragon, provided an update on the in-limbo Nine Voyages, for which HBO still hasn't given the greenlight. Speaking to Screen Rant, the actor was asked if he had "any insights or updates" about the prequel:

"I'm afraid I don't. I mean, initially, when it was mooted, when we were shooting Season 1, it was mooted, and I was like, 'Oh my God, that'd be great.' And then I thought, 'I can't play 21 again. Oh, s**t, it's too late.' And then George said to me, 'Oh, no, it'll be animated.' And I was like, 'Okay, great.' But that's the last I heard. I saw George just a few weeks ago, and as far as I'm aware, it's ongoing. I don't know what stage they're at with it, but it's still a possibility. But other than that, I don't know."

Toussaint also shared what he would love to explore in the Sea Snake prequel spin-off series:

"Do you know, actually, what most interests me about them [Corlys and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen], and this is terrible because I'm a bit of a romantic, I'm actually more interested in how he won Rhaenys ... I love the stuff about him going off [on] adventures because I think a lot of him doing that is his spirit, that he has to go and see, but also to impress this lady."

According to a report from January of this year, Genndy Tartakovsky is reportedly attached to the animated Sea Snake project.

House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
