Bug's mom shared in the caption, "My cat was unsure about her new litter box…"

Really, who can blame her? It's enclosed, it makes noises, and it's not like anything she's ever seen before!

Are Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes Worth the Cost?

We had a cat adopt our family last summer, and as first-time cat owners, we had no idea just how messy-and smelly-a litter box could be. After a few weeks, we decided to invest in a self-cleaning litter box, and honestly, it's one of the best pet purchases we've ever made.

We ended up getting a Whisker smart litter box called the Litter-Robot EVO, which is perfect for a one-cat household (though it can accommodate up to two cats).

We couldn't love it more. It automatically sifts out waste after every use, but is so quiet you'll never even notice it, even if it's in a main living area. You purchase clumping litter, and the dirty clumps fall into a tightly sealed, carbon-filtered waste drawer so you never have to smell it.

Cleaning it is incredibly simple. When the waste drawer is full, you pull out the bag, tie it off, toss it, and replace it with a new one. That's it. Depending on how many cats you have, you can go up to 7 days without even cleaning it.

Self-cleaning litter boxes definitely aren't cheap, but ask most cat owners who have one, and they'll tell you the same thing: the convenience, cleanliness, and odor control make them well worth the investment.
