Nearly 18,000 Fans Sold at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls Are Being Recalled For a Dangerous Reason
As summer starts turning up the thermostat, most of us begin reaching for every cooling gadget we can find. Ceiling fans start earning their keep again, portable fans move from the closet to center stage, and that little tabletop fan you forgot about all winter becomes a daily necessity. When temperatures climb, anything that promises a breeze tends to get a lot more use than it did just a few weeks ago.
That's why a newly announced fan recall is worth paying attention to. Nearly 18,000 heating and cooling fans sold at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Sierra are being recalled due to a serious safety concern. While recalls can sometimes feel easy to scroll past, this one involves a product many people may be pulling out for the season right now.
The recall affects a compact bladeless appliance from Merkury Innovations that functions as both a fan and a heater. Because it's designed for year-round use, it's possible you have had this sitting atop a counter or console table since you purchased it.
Shoppers can identify the affected product by looking for model number MI-DHC02, which is printed on a white sticker attached to the underside of the unit and also appears on the original packaging.
The good news is that checking a model number only takes a minute. And when it comes to products designed to keep you comfortable during a heat wave, a quick safety check can help ensure the only thing your fan is generating this summer is a cool breeze.

Why Are These Fans Being Recalled?
The issue behind the Merkury Innovations recall is a particularly serious one: the fan can overheat while connected to a power source, creating a potential fire hazard. According to the company, there have already been two reported incidents involving the product catching fire. In one of those cases, the fire resulted in smoke damage to property. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.
Where Were the Recalled Fans Sold?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the fans were sold at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Sierra stores from October 2024 through October 2025 for around $30.
What To Do If You Own One of The Recalled Merkury Innovations Fans
In this case, it's recommended you stop using the fan immediately and contact the company for a full refund. What Merkury Innovations wants you to do is write the date, your initials and the word "Recalled" in permanent marker on the fan. Then, you should unplug the cord, safely cut the cord and upload a photo of the destroyed product to the website they have in place to handle the matter.
Once you've completed all of these steps, the company will tell you how to finish disposing of the fan and explain how you'll receive your refund.
