AE Source: Seasoned Soul to bring the grooves to 4th Corner Speakeasy
Step into dancing shoes and prepare for a night of moves and grooves as Seasoned Soul takes to the stage at The 4th Corner Speakeasy Saturday at 7 p.m.
The members of Seasoned Soul are Roddy Knox on drums; Gordon Frazier, Cleveland Jones, and Harry Winford Jr. on vocals; Darren Brown on bass and vocals; Neil Williford on saxophone and vocals; Benjamin Edmon on guitar; and Le Roy King on keyboards and vocals.
Though Seasoned Soul was formed three years ago, most of the members have known each other since high school.
Individually, members have been playing in the Bay Area and nationally for over 40 years, performing on local and national stages alongside legendary artists, including Tower of Power, Carl Carlton, Buddy Miles, and more.
King described Seasoned Soul as a high-energy R&B Motown dance band that loves to play.
Audiences can expect music from the 70s, '80s, and '90s with covers of popular songs from Kool and the Gang, Earth, Wind, and Fire, the Temptations, and the Commodores.
King said he previously played with Tower of Power while performing with another group.
Tower of Power baritone saxophonist Stephen "Doc" Kupka invited him to perform alongside the band.
"He brought me along, and we were able to play with them. My favorite part about performing with Tower of Power was that we opened up for the Doobie Brothers at one point at the Greek Theatre," said King.
When it comes to curating a setlist within Seasoned Soul, King said that although each member has their own preference and style, they prioritize what their fans want to hear.
"When we do shows, people will usually ask if we can do specific songs," King said. "Usually, the songs we do are fan favorites, and they're well-known songs."
King added that music has been a central part of his life since he began playing at the age of five.
King played through middle school and high school bands, where King met most of his fellow Seasoned Soul members.
"The guitar player and the drummer we met in high school, and we started playing in miscellaneous local bands in the city," King said. "That's where most of us started. From Ben Franklin to Roosevelt (middle schools) to Washington High School, that's where we developed our skills."
A multi-instrumentalist, King plays the bass and guitar as well.
"I've been performing music for so long, it's just a passion. We're all now in our senior age, and I think we love music. We've been doing it our whole lives. I don't know what I would do without it. Once you have a passion for music, I don't think you ever really lose it," said King.
Advanced tickets are $23. Tickets at the door will be $28.
