'Shy' 10-Year-Old Shelter Cat Has Waited Nearly 1,100 Days for a Forever Home

Some dogs and cats stay in the shelter longer than others for various reasons including age, health status, breed, or energy level. These sweet fur babies long for a home and lose hope when they are continually passed over for adoption.

Tiana is a 10-year-old cat who's been at NAWS Humane Society for almost three years and is still waiting for a potential pet parent to notice her.

My sweet and precious Tiana I truly can not believe Tiana has been passed up SO many times. Tiana needs a hero. Someone who will be extremely attentive to her and her needs. Someone who will take things extremely slow. Tiana doesn't do well with change, and we've seen this before. Tiana was adopted out for about a month last year and was relinquished back to us because she was "sick". Her previous owner didn't know if she was eating and her liver started to shut down due to the new change of environment. Tiana almost didn't make it. We are all so lucky that she is here with us today, and we are determined to make sure that something like that doesn't happen again. Tiana will need to be adopted to an experienced cat owner with a very stable and quiet home. She likes other calm cats but not large dogs. She is in great health for being ten years old. If you have questions please feel free to message or email me, and if you are serious about rescuing Tiana please submit a cat adoption application at nawsus.org. I love you guys tons and tons, let's get this girl home.

The TikTok from @franflight told Tiana's story and how her timid nature may give adopters the wrong impression.

"She has been in our animal rescue program for 1,076 days," the onscreen text revealed as a NAWS staff member cuddled with the pretty kitty. "Tiana is categorized as being shy. 'Not outgoing enough'. But she just needs a safe environment to show her true self. Someone who understands that building her confidence will take time."

Tiana has a tough time with changes and requires "stability and consistency".

"She needs someone who will allow her to open up on her terms," the story continued as Tiana began to warm up to the staff member. "Because once she lets you in, you'll see her love is worth the wait."

Update on Tiana

The social media account shared that since the original TikTok was posted, Tiana was adopted and now has a home of her own. The video featured the NAWS shelter staff member crossing out the number of days Tiana was "without a forever family" and putting a big "0" to mark her new beginning.

GUYS FINALLY SOME HAPPY NEWS! Everytime i'm able to post one of these videos for you all it truly makes me the happiest person. I hope you all know and understand and can somehow feel how much of an impact you made on Tiana's life. Without you all who shared her story, this outcome would not have happened. Social media is truly so powerful, and i'm so thankful that we all have this community for these animals who truly need someone. This is what happens when you show up for these animals. Viviana, thank you for being so beautiful inside and out and for being so willing to be Tiana's hero. You are such an amazing human, and I hope you are reminded of that often. I'm sending you guys all of my love, let's all have an amazing week! #adopt#adoptdontshop#cat#catsoftiktok#catadoption
