Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers across the Bay Area should be prepared for possible power shutoffs during a forecasted midweek spike in temperatures and concerns about potential wildfire threats, officials say.

Potential power shutoffs are on tap for Colusa, Glen, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama and Yolo counties, according to a PG&E alert issued Monday. The advisory is in effect through Friday, and specific addresses for shutoffs are typically available two days in advance.

"The information in this (advisory) is intended only to provide customers with a general estimate regarding potential locations that may be impacted by a (public safety power shutoff) event should one become necessary," PG&E officials wrote in the advisory. "Conditions affecting a possible PSPS event can change quickly and the actual impact of a future PSPS event is uncertain."

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures are expected to gradually climb this week and reach the lower 90s Wednesday before peaking Thursday at or near 100 degrees. Parts of Santa Rosa may have a high temperature of 98 degrees Thursday, while the city of Napa is expected to land at 97 degrees. Healdsburg and Cloverdale were expected Monday to reach 100 degrees.

Dry conditions, coupled with offshore winds with gusts reaching 20 mph, are identified as the key factors for this week's wildfire concerns. Concerns are highest for the North Bay interior mountains, where winds are strongest and hot and dry conditions will extend into the rest of the Bay Area and Central Coast.

Concerns follow a wind-driven fire that scored 10.5 acres off Lyon Road and Interstate 80 near Vacaville Sunday evening. That was followed Monday by the the 300-acre Putah Fire off Highway 128 in Yolo County.

Area residents this week are encouraged to take precautions to reduce the threat of fires. Steps include properly disposing of cigarettes and matches, avoiding use of equipment that creates sparks, making sure campfires are out and following burn bans or only burning with permits.
