Neighbor Who's 'Allergic' to Dogs Suddenly Isn't When He Meets Golden Retriever While Drunk

Some people say they are allergic to dogs. Some people say they can't possibly come near a dog, pet a dog, look at a dog, or breathe the same porch air as a dog. And then, apparently, some people meet a Golden Retriever named Bodhi, after midnight with a little too much liquid confidence, and suddenly discover they are medically cleared for full-body emotional support.

A security camera captured the kind of neighborhood moment that makes you grateful people have doorbell cameras and Golden Retrievers have forgiving souls. It's 12:44 in the morning, the world is quiet, and one very happy, very unsteady neighbor spots the dog outside. What follows isn't exactly a polite wave from down the driveway. It's a dramatic reunion, even though these two are not long-lost war buddies.

The neighbor bends down, wraps Bodhi in the kind of hug usually reserved for airport arrivals, and begins pouring his heart out. This is the kind of heartfelt "I love you" energy that only a Golden Retriever and a man who definitely should be drinking water can create together.

The best part is the alleged allergies. This is not just a man saying hello to a dog. This is a man whose immune system apparently clocked out the second he saw a fluffy Golden angel standing nearby. During daylight hours, he may be "allergic." At 12:44 a.m., he's basically auditioning to become the dog's godfather.

Who can blame him? Goldens like Bodhi have a way of making even the strongest fold. You can try to walk in with boundaries, excuses, and a whole speech about dander, and they look at you with those soft eyes like, "Sure, but have you considered loving me forever?" Suddenly, you are on camera making life choices.

Bodhi, for his part, seems to accept the attention with classic Golden Retriever patience. He doesn't question the man's medical history. He doesn't bring up past allergy claims. He simply allows himself to be adored because Golden's understand that sometimes humans are just big, emotional raccoons in shoes.

It's sweet, ridiculous, and exactly the kind of small neighborhood comedy the internet adores. Nobody is trying to be famous. Nobody is performing. It's just a tipsy neighbor, a very huggable Bodhi, and one allergy story that may need to be reexamined in the morning.

The Sweetest Way To Say Hi to a Dog

If you meet a dog that you desperately want to love, give everyone a second to breathe first. Ask the dog's person, move slowly, keep your voice soft, and let the pooch decide whether they want to come closer. Even the friendliest dogs deserve a choice.

The American Kennel Club shares helpful guidance on how to safely greet a dog you don't know, including asking permission first and watching the pup's body language. Basically, be sweet, be calm, and don't make a Golden Retriever responsible for managing your midnight feelings, even if they're clearly qualified.

By morning, his allergy may have returned, but that security camera already caught his immune system committing perjury.
