Plex Launches 5 New Free Channels: Lifetime Movies, Z Nation, and More
Plex has been rather busy lately. The London-based streaming service added almost two dozen free channels to its library in May, and has continued that expansion in June.
According to Luke Bouma of Cord Cutters News, Plex debuted five more free channel options to kick off June. The additions cover several different genres.
"This expansion enhances the platform's ad-supported television selection, providing users with more diverse options across entertainment, documentaries, sci-fi, and sports without requiring any subscription fees," Bouma writes.
What channels did Plex add this week?
- Lifetime Movies Black Stories
- Documentary Plus
- Z Nation
- Monsters Are Real
- beIN Sports Extra
As its title suggests, Lifetime Movies Black Stories presents different films centered around aspects of the Black experience. Documentary Plus focuses on non-fiction programming, including science, true crime and deep dives on historical events.
Z Nation showcases the Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler-created zombie apocalypse drama which aired on Syfy from 2014-18. In addition to episodes of the series, it also broadcasts related content.
Lastly, Monsters Are Real delivers "documentaries, investigative reports, and speculative series about Bigfoot, lake monsters, extraterrestrial encounters, and other legendary beings," while beIN Sports Extra focuses on live events, highlights, analysis and other coverage of international athletic competitions.
Plex has made subscription changes as well
It's not just the free stuff on Plex that has been updated. Last month, the company made waves when it announced it was tripling its lifetime subscription fee to $750.
The move drew some complaints, though Plex attempted to clarify its stance to customers.
"When Plex first started, we were movie and TV fans who wanted to make something great for people like us. We chose to offer a lifetime subscription early on because we knew many of our customers would rather pay a higher one-time fee for software that they can depend on every day," the company said in a statement.
