Marlon Wayans' Big Ask for Rebooting ‘The Wayans Bros'
Ahead of the June 5 release of the newest installment of the Scary Movie franchise, Scary Movie 6 to be exact, the film's stars have been hitting the press run hard. As a fan of the legendary Wayans family, it's been a joy to watch the dynamic duo of Shawn and Marlon Wayans in public spaces again, on radio/TV shows and podcasts. The siblings just know how to create these moments of comedy that make you take notice. There's a reason their hit show The Wayans Bros ran for five seasons.
Speaking of The Wayans Bros., while in one of his solo interviews, Marlon actually discussed the possibility of a reboot, including what he'd like to see happen in order for that to become a reality.
Marlon Forced to Choose Between His Show & Other Iconic Sitcoms
On the June 2 episode of the podcast Open Thoughts with Funny Marco, Funny Marco sat with Marlon and asked some interesting questions, being sure to mix in his signature jokes. At one point during their discussion, Funny Marco asks the HIM star, "What would you name your top five shows, because you had The Jamie Foxx Show, Martin, your Wayans Bros show, you had The Fresh Prince, like what would be your top five in order?"
A humble Marlon at first claimed that he wouldn't put his show in the mix. Then Funny Marco modified the question to, "Wayans Bros. or The Jamie Foxx Show?" Positioned that way, Marlon expressed his love for Jamie Foxx the person, but chose his own show. When forced to choose between his own and Martin, although Marlon hesitated, he ultimately picked The Wayans Bros. again for pride's sake (to be clear, he also expressed his love for Martin Lawrence).
Marlon Wayans Would Reboot ‘The Wayans Bros' to Right a "Wrong"
Funny Marco eventually asked Marlon if he and Shawn own the rights to The Wayans Bros., to which Marlon said, "We have our name, but that show is theirs." Then, unprompted, Marlon spoke on the possibility of a reboot, stating:
"I think what I want to do honestly, I want to do, we never got a final episode. And I want to do the Wayans Bros final episode, but I want to do it as a movie. And that sounds crazy. And that's another show I would reboot. I would do Wayans Bros. now. And I'd put our [Marlon and Shawn's] real kids on it. Cause he named his son Marlon, and I named my son Shawn."
So what do you think? Would you be in the market for a reboot of The Wayans Bros., whether it's a movie or TV show? Admittedly, I wouldn't mind it, but I would miss star of the original cast, John Witherspoon, who portrayed Pops. Check out the Marlon interview clip with Funny Marco below.
Marlon Wayans says he's open to rebooting "The Wayans Bros." TV show and reveals he wants to turn the TV show's final episode into a movie because the show never got a final episode.
