The Top 10 Games Shown at Sony's State of Play for June 2026
Even though E3 has gone the way of brick-and-mortar video stores, the gaming industry still targets June for its big events. That officially kicked off on Tuesday with Sony's second State of Play in 2026. The publisher showed off 20-plus games headed to PlayStation 5, including the reveal of an all-new God of War title.
There was a lot to sort through, so before we get to the top 10 titles from Sony's State of Play, here are some additional notes and honorable mentions:
On the news side, Marathon officially launched its second season today, titled Nightfall, which features a new map and new Runner shell among other improvements. No Rest for the Wicked, from the team behind Ori and the Blind Forest, will be heading to PS5 in October after more than two years in Early Access on Steam. Also, Dune: Awakening is making the jump from PC to consoles on Sept. 22, and it will be adding a single-player mode.
Among the titles that stood out but didn't quite crack the top 10, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls showed off more characters and action ahead of its late-August launch. Ubisoft announced Rayman Legends Retold, which looked like it had a How to Train Your Dragon influence, and Kemuri had an interesting look, though I'm not sure about the gameplay loop.
10) Phantom Blade Zero
For a game that ranked 12th back in January when I looked at my top 26 games of 2026, this spot feels low. Sony largely punted on showing off anything new, however, instead announcing a deeper dive would be coming later this summer ahead of the expected Oct. 29 launch. I'm still very much looking forward to Phantom Blade Zero, but it was disappointing to see so little from it here.
9) Silent Hill: Townfall
Like Phantom Blade Zero, I don't feel Sony covered much new ground with Townfall coming off the full reveal at February's State of Play. A release date was announced, making it one of four games set to drop between Sept. 22 and Sept. 25. With Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto VI casting massive shadows, the September logjam looks staggering.
8) The Lost Wild
An evasion-based survival horror game with dinosaurs in it? My antenna is fully up, even though I'm once again left wanting for a true successor to Dino Crisis.
7) Until Dawn 2
Until Dawn put Supermassive Games on the map, and the studio has spent the last decade plus trying to recreate that magic with varying degrees of success. The sequel will be helmed by developer Firesprite, best known for its work on the VR game Horizon Call of the Mountain. We'll see if Firesprite can create a worthy successor.
6) Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Capcom looks to continue its hot streak with the first Onimusha release in more than 20 years. The trailer had a very soulslike quality to it, though the game's director, Satoru Nihei, has indicated that is not the case. The fact that Capcom is launching a demo now, months ahead of the Sept. 25 release date, suggests it's confident in what it has.
5) Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
I'm a sucker for Lara Croft, and the remake of the original continues to look like it's going to hit that sweet spot between the modern and classic versions. Originally set for a 2026 launch, it's moving to Feb. 12, 2027-look for more games to follow suit to avoid competing with GTA VI.
4) ILL
Although grotesque creatures have been done to death at this point, there was something about the trailer for ILL that managed to feel uniquely unsettling. I'll admit some of the dialogue felt stilted, but the gameplay looked legitimately creepy.
3) CONTROL Resonant
We got a bit more narrative background for Remedy's upcoming title at State of Play. We also got a release date…and yes, it's coming out on Sept. 24. Please spare a thought for the game reviewers in your life.
2) God of War Laufey
This was by far the biggest new announcement of Sony's show. Developer Santa Monica Studio is not only working on a remake of the original trilogy but also a new entry in the current, Norse-based story. While I wouldn't classify the extended look as a slam dunk-moving away from Kratos is a bold move, and a talking gelatinous cube named Phranque screamed Thor: Ragnarok-the last two God of War games have been excellent, and I trust Sony's Santa Monica Studio to deliver.
1) Marvel's Wolverine
After being conspicuously absent from February's State of Play, Marvel's Wolverine kicked off the show with a lengthy look at the bloody gameplay and sneak peeks of some of the game's other mutants, such as Jean Grey and Sabretooth. While I wouldn't have minded a little more story reveal, I can't wait to play this game.
