If you're struggling to find wall art that isn't just a painting, family photo or, more importantly, one that won't break the bank, you aren't completely out of luck. In fact, all you may need is a quick trip to your local thrift store.

Creator Olivia Sass recently shared her idea to thrift vintage silk scarves, frame them and hang them up.

The Function - Ship Wrek

Not only does the act feel totally chic and like something a twenty-something-year-old in a rom-com would do, but it's also incredibly easy to recreate.

How to Make It

To get started, search for a scarf if you don't already have one. For the scarf, a silky fabric with a print you love and could see hanging on your wall is perfect.

Then, you want to find or use a frame that fits the scarf. However, you can also use a frame smaller than the scarf and fold the edges of the fabric.

Optionally, you could also use double-sided tape to keep the scarf in place on the frame's backing. This step is especially helpful if your scarf is extra soft and slippery.

Finally, put your frame back together and hang it up.

Where Would This Look Best?

Where this DIY piece would look best depends on the print on your scarf.

If you find a print that is more "picture-like" in nature, you may want to hang it on its own so as not to distract from the scarf. If the print is more repetitive or soft in nature, it may be better to use it as an addition to a gallery wall or another "busy" wall area in your home.

The Comments

Comment section under Sass' TikTok praised the idea, with some citing times when they did similar things.

Several commenters mentioned they were considering framing scarves that held sentimental value. "I love this idea because I can't part with all my grandma's old scarves," wrote one viewer.

Whether you already have tons of fancier scarves you would like to hang or a few empty wall spaces you want to fill, this idea is as cute as it is affordable.

Plus, it's unique and so easy to do.
