Over Disinfecting Everything

"Cleaning and disinfecting are not the same thing," Kellsie explained in her TikTok. "You don't need to disinfect every surface in your home everyday unless there's a real reason, like raw meat, illness or something contaminated. For everyday dirt, regular cleaning is usually enough."

Basically, when you're just wiping down counters, tables and other surfaces that have accumulated nothing more than dust or crumbs, all you need is probably just a cloth with some water; for slightly messier areas, you can just use an all-purpose cleaning spray or even a DIY vinegar spray (equal parts water and vinegar).

Using the Wrong Cleaner for the Job

"Another thing I stopped doing is using the wrong cleaner for the job," Kellsie said, explaining that when you use a basic all-purpose cleaner on something really grimy or greasy, you're going to have to scrub even harder.

"For example, when I'm dealing with grease, I'm not reaching for a multi-surface cleaner. I'm using a degreaser," she explained. "When you use the right product, it does most of the work for you."

Scrubbing Too Soon

When I clean my house, I'm typically rushing to get things done as quickly as possible - meaning that after I spray on a cleaning product, I usually start wiping right away. But according to Kellsie, that's just going to make you to spend more time cleaning in the long run.

"Most cleaning products need time to sit so they can actually break down build up," she explained. "When you spray and immediately scrub, you're just making more work for yourself."

Don't Mix Products

"I stopped thinking that more products mean better results," Kellsie explained. "Mixing cleaners is not how you get a deeper clean, and it's not safe. You should never mix products like bleach, vinegar or ammonia. That can create harmful fumes and reactions you don't want to be breathing in."
