Humboldt Towing and City Cab are closing

Two local transportation companies have announced they will close their businesses in the past week. Humboldt Towing announced it would close last Thursday, and City Cab will close its taxi business on June 30, 2026.

Humboldt Towing Company, which offered 24/7 towing and roadside assistance, including jumpstarts, tire changes, lockouts, RV and semi towing and other services to the Humboldt County area, closed the business on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Through a post on the Humboldt Towing Companies' Facebook page on Friday, the company wrote, "Due to the rising costs of employee wages, fuel, insurance, increasing regulations and the growing red tape involved with operating a business in Eureka, California, this difficult decision had to be made. We would like to sincerely thank our customers, local businesses, law enforcement agencies and community members for your support throughout the years."

The post also stated that if anyone has a vehicle stored at their facility, all vehicles must be picked up no later than June 20, 2026.

Humboldt Towing is having a yard sale, too, advertising, "Everything must go."

The yard sale will be held Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.

City Cab is still serving customers until its final day of operations, slated for Tuesday, June 30.

In a post on the company's Facebook page, City Cab wrote, "This is one of the hardest posts we have ever had to write. After more than forty years of serving Eureka, CAE Transport Inc./City Cab of Eureka will be closing operations effective June 30, 2026.

"We want you to hear directly from us why this is happening. Rising costs in fuel, insurance and wages have made it impossible to continue operating sustainably. We explored every possible option before making this decision, and while painful, we believe it is the right one. Thank you for allowing us to serve you for so many years. We are deeply grateful for the trust and support this community has shown us throughout the decades."
