'The Forest' Is Leaving Netflix in June 2026

You have at least another month to watch this Netflix original before it departs the platform. A victim of the streamer's monthly content purge (usually due to licensing rights), 2017's The Forest (or La Forêt in French) is poised to leave later in June.

Here's a synopsis for the uninitiated:

"Police investigate after a teenaged girl, Jennifer Lenoir, disappears in a forest in the Ardennes, Belgium, and are assisted by her teacher, who had a traumatic experience in the same forest when she was young."

The six-episode series starred Samuel Labarthe as Gaspard Decker, Suzanne Clément as Virginie Musso, Alexia Barlier as Ève Mendel, Frédéric Diefenthal as Vincent Musso, Patrick Ridremont as Thierry Rouget, Nicolas Marié as Gilles Lopez, Martha Canga Antonio as Maya Musso, and Isis Guillaume as Jennifer Lenoir. The Forest hailed from creator Delinda Jacobs, who also wrote the series. Julius Berg directed every episode.

The Forest premiered its first and only season on May 30, 2017, on the Belgian channel La Une. Then, it debuted on France 3 on Nov. 21, 2017, before finally hitting Netflix internationally on July 6, 2018.

On the critical front, the series was well-received. It boasts a 95 percent score on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. Decider.com praised the show for having "enough intrigue" and "fine performances" to keep audiences invested. The New Statesmanlauded The Forest for its immersive setting, noting that it "seduces at every turn." Audience reviews also praised the acclaimed crime drama for its atmosphere and suspense.
