Bentley, the German Shepherd, has one very important responsibility in life: protecting his tiny bearded dragon best friend from absolutely everybody.

And honestly? He takes the assignment EXTREMELY seriously.

The adorable video shared on TikTok by @joshwinningham2 shows Bentley curled up beside a tiny bearded dragon named Jedi, while carefully guarding him during their hangout session.

The caption explains:

"Bentley is so protective of Jedi, he doesn't ever want their playtime to end."

And honestly, the level of emotional investment here is kind of incredible.

The video shows the little lizard snuggled comfortably beside the massive German Shepherd while Bentley keeps a close eye on nearby humans.

At Different Moments in the Clip:

• Jedi relaxes beside Bentley.

• Bentley scoots protectively closer.

• The dog growls softly when people approach.

• Everyone online immediately becomes emotionally attached to the strange little friendship.

People in the Comments Were Absolutely Obsessed With the Pair:

• "That's his dinosaur now."

• "That's his pet."

• "Emotional support dragon."

• "A dragon and his bodyguard."

• "The lizard said, ‘You better back up! My bodyguard is on duty.'"

• "What an odd and adorable couple."

Honestly, "emotional support dragon" may be one of the funniest phrases I've read all week, because Bentley genuinely looks like he believes Jedi is his tiny, precious responsibility.

Some commenters suggested the German Shepherd was displaying resource-guarding behavior, but others quickly disagreed.

One person replied:

"As a person who owns a breed notorious for resource guarding, I'd save yourselves the embarrassment. This is FAR from that."

And honestly, Bentley mostly looks like an extremely invested babysitter who has fully accepted his role as Jedi's personal security team. Also, judging from the other videos on this account, Bentley seems to be in love with all of his fur (and scaly!) siblings.

Meanwhile, my Pomeranian, Kingston, once became emotionally attached to a decorative pumpkin for three weeks, so honestly, pets choosing bizarre objects or creatures to obsess over feels extremely believable to me.

What Exactly Is Resource Guarding?

@nighttimek9

Resource guarding is a very nuanced issue in dog training and requires a multifaceted approach First recommendation have a trainer in your area help you with your specific case Second recommendation take care of all the indirect causes that will benefit any issue you are having with your problematic or reactive dog no matter the behaviors they are displaying Dog's thrive on structure and leadership. They crave a leader at their core even when to the untrained eye it appears as if they want to take control. That dog simply has not met a worthy leader When a dog understands their resources and structure are being taken care of by a benevolent leader, then they will be able to relax and get out of their scarcity mindset and need to take control Want to learn how to FULLY train your reactive/fearful/aggressive dog??? Resource guarding is a behavior where a dog becomes defensive over something they consider valuable, such as food, toys, spaces, or even people.

Dogs Displaying Resource Guarding May:

Stiffen their bodies

• Snarl or snap

• Hover protectively

• Block access intentionally

• Show escalating tension or aggression

Animal behavior experts note that not all protective or attached behavior automatically qualifies as resource guarding.

Many Dogs Simply:

• Form close bonds

• Enjoy companionship

• Feel protective of smaller animals

• Want to continue playtime

• Display herding or guardian instincts naturally

And judging by Bentley, this German Shepherd seems far more interested in protecting his tiny "dragon" best friend than starting actual trouble with anyone nearby.
