Call your girlfriend -- SF's Portola Music Festival just announced a huge headliner
May 28-This fall is heating up for music fans. After what will inevitably be a hot summer of Stern Grove shows and an impressively diverse Outside Lands, late September brings the Portola Music Festival, which just dropped a lineup that's essentially a buffet of electronic music subgenres.
Now in its fifth year, the event is scheduled for September 26-27 (coincidentally coinciding with Folsom Street Fair). It takes place at Pier 80, a venue on the outskirts of Potrero Hill that has a gritty industrial feel, matching some of the festival's more raw techno offerings. The inimitable Swedish dance-pop star Robyn will headline Saturday, known for aughts hits like "Call Your Girlfriend" and "Dancing On My Own," and more recent 2026 comeback album "Sexistential." She's top-billed alongside Dog Blood, a collaboration between Skrillex and Boys Noize (fresh off his union with Nine Inch Nails). Sunday night will see radio-topping big room kingpins Swedish House Mafia taking over the headline slot.
The rest of the lineup is a strong mix of legacy acts and trending newcomers, with a few pop curveballs thrown in for good measure. Soulwax gets high billing, and they'll be bringing back one of last year's standout festival elements, their hi-fi Despacio dance club. Portola stalwart Four Tet will also return. Trending acts include electro-pop experimentalists Bassvictim and SF-raised underscores, plus indie sleaze revivalists FCUKERS. The throwback category might be the most stacked, with Tiesto, Tricky, Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada and DJ Shadow celebrating 30 years of "Endtroducing..." Tove Lo and Zara Larsson offer some nice pop counterprogramming.
The lineup is light on hip-hop, but British rapper Skepta will be sure to draw big crowds. Previously announced Berliner Marlon Hoffstadt brings a touch of trance. Locals on the bill include: Eriika back to back with SF Cowboy (founders of Program Audio), Vitamin 1000's Clearcast and Felly Fell. Also, Horsegiirl returns with her signature style of equestrian dance music.
The event is thrown by the Bay Area offices of Goldenvoice, promoters best known for Coachella. They've recently doubled down on bringing electronic music to San Francisco via their Club Darc series at Pier 48, which ran from February to mid-May and boasted iconic artists like Solomun and Underworld, plus trending EDM acts like Chris Lake.
Presale tickets for past Portola purchasers go on sale June 1 at 12 p.m., with registered general admission sale beginning the following day.
