One of pop music's greatest songwriters kicks off concert tour in Bay Area

Paul Simon and retirement did not prove to be a very good fit.

Thus, Simon - who waved goodbye to fans during his so-called Farewell Tour in 2018 - added a bunch of 2026 dates to his A Quiet Celebration Tour.

The latest portion of the trek - which builds on his 2025 concert dates - gets underway at Frost Amphitheater.

The 84-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer - who was first inducted as one half of Simon & Garfunkel in 1990 and then again in 2001 as a solo artist - performs June 3-4 at the lovely outdoor venue on the Stanford University campus.

The show will be divided into two parts - the latter of which will be surely be longer than the first.

It opens with a complete performance of Simon’s Grammy-nominated latest album, “Seven Psalms,’" which runs only 33 minutes in its studio form.

Following a brief intermission, Simon then launches into the second portion of the evening, which is filled with greatest hits and other fan favorites from both Simon’s solo catalog and his work with Art Garfunkel. The setlists we’ve seen have included such masterpieces as “Homeward Bound,” “Slip Slidin’ Away” and “The Sound of Silence.”

Simon's band for this tour includes his wife Edie Brickell (vocals), along with Mark Stewart (guitar), Bakithi Kumalo (bass), Andy Snitzer (saxophone), Jamey Haddad (percussion), Mick Rossi (piano, keys), Gyan Riley (guitar), Matt Chamberlain (drums), Nancy Stagnitta (flute), Caleb Burhans (viola) and Eugene Friesen (Cello).
