Savannah Guthrie Reportedly Hires Private Detectives to Search for Missing Mother Nancy

As NBC Today cohost Savannah Guthrie continues to wait for answers on what happened to her missing 84-year-old mother Nancy, she's reportedly taking matters into her own hands.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Since then, authorities have pursued hundreds, if not thousands, of tips and collected potential DNA evidence, but have not determined a suspect or even a definite motive for the suspected kidnapping.

A new report from British journalist Rob Shuter's Substack now claims Savannah "refuses to rely solely on law enforcement" and is "paying whatever it takes to keep this search active."

Savannah allegedly growing "increasingly frustrated"

Citing sources, Shuter claims Guthrie has "assembled a team of private detectives, former federal agents, and security specialists" to track down leads and information regarding the case.

"Friends say the Today star has grown increasingly frustrated with the pace of the official investigation, especially after Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed he is no longer personally communicating with the family," Shuter wrote.

Shuter's sources called the lack of communication "incredibly upsetting for Savannah," who feels that instead of urgency, the investigation "became distant and procedural."

Nanos previously admitted lack of direct contact with Guthrie family

In a conversation with PEOPLE earlier this month, Nanos, who has come under scrutiny for the way he has handled the case from the outset, admitted that the FBI, not he and his department, are in contact with the Guthrie family.

He also conceded that Nancy's relatives, along with the general public, are feeling dismayed.

"The public is frustrated. Even the Guthrie family," Nanos said. "Every passing second must feel like 100 days because they don't know. What matters is moving forward carefully so we don't make mistakes or falsely accuse somebody or make a bad arrest."

Nanos did add that his team continues to pursue investigative leads and expressed confidence that they will solve the mystery.

"My team, I've said all along, they're gonna solve this," he says. "I fully 100% believe that."

Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie is reportedly sparing no expense to fund her team of outside assistance, and still maintains hope her mother can be found.
