The Chicks usually play big amphitheaters and arenas when they come through the Bay Area.

This time around, however, the 13-time Grammy-winning country act will play a much more intimate space.

The Chicks will bring their Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour — in celebration of their chart-topping “Taking the Long Way” album from 2006 — to The Masonic for a two-night stand, Oct. 29-30. That San Francisco venue holds roughly 3,000 folks — as opposed to 20,000-plus for a sold-out Shoreline show.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. June 4, Thechicks.com/tour. There is also an artist presale that kicks off at 10 a.m. June 3. To participate in the presale, fans must register at https://signup.livenation.com/thechicks by 11:59 p.m. May 31.

“The Taking the Long Way Tour will serve as a triumphant victory lap to commemorate two decades of the critically acclaimed album that topped the Billboard 200 chart and earned The Chicks five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. Long regarded as the Chicks' defiant masterpiece, ‘Taking the Long Way,’ originally released in 2006, solidified the band's legacy as courageous disruptors,” according to a press release. “Widely regarded as one of the most influential albums of its era, the project showcased The Chicks at their most fearless and vulnerable, and lead single ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’ remains an anthem of artistic freedom and personal autonomy 20 years later. It is the album we needed then, and the album we need even more so now.”

The Chicks — Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer — will be performing the album in its entirety on all dates of this tour.
