Weekend festivals: Morgan Hill hosts 45th Mushroom Mardi Gras
How do you like your mushrooms?
The cooks at the Mushroom Mardi Gras, now in its 45th year, celebrate Morgan Hill’s crop by serving them stuffed, deep-fried, grilled, sauteed, marinated and more — and always with a side of live music.
The festival runs until 7 p.m. today, May 23, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 24, in and around the Downtown Morgan Hill Amphitheater.
Besides a full lineup of music, dance and other entertainment, the event will feature live cooking demos on the Chef Stage, a children’s fun zone and 200 arts, crafts and product booths.
At the “Mushroom Experience,” located in the Community & Cultural Center, attendees can learn about the health benefits of mushrooms and how they’re grown, buy a kit for growing mushrooms at home and try a taste of mushroom beer.
Run by a nonprofit, the Mushroom Mardi Gras has education as its mission. Festival proceeds go toward scholarships.
