Pets get attached to each other just as much as they do to their human family members. If one fur baby leaves the pack, the pet who remains feels the loss.

This Golden Retriever didn't know the Maine Coon kittens being raised in her home would move on to their forever families, and openly expressed her grief.

In the TikTok from @ironmane_coons, the gorgeous Golden sadly whimpered as she lay on the floor with a plush cat toy. The precious pooch vocalized her despair with guttural cries, letting everyone around her know she was in emotional pain. Apparently, the litter of Maine Coon kittens she bonded with were adopted and went with their new families, leaving the Golden on her own.

"POV: No one warned us the Golden Retriever would take the kitten sales so hard," the onscreen text shared, with the caption adding, "The kittens may have found their forever homes… but someone in the house is clearly still processing it."

The canine cutie tried to substitute her feline friends with the stuffed animal toy. "She officially adopted the backup kitten,' the caption added.

Followers felt compassion for the grieving Golden, with many lobbying for another kitten to be brought into the family.

"My dog is crying for your dog. And that is making me cry," one revealed.

"You gotta get the baby a kitten," another remarked.

"My heart breaks hearing those cries," a follower shared.

"She needs a kitten of her own to stay - poor girl is heartbroken," someone noted.

How to Help a Dog Cope With Losing a Fur Sibling

Dogs go through a grieving cycle when they lose a family member or fellow fur baby sibling. There are some ways to support your canine in their time of need.

  • Give them time and space. The mourning process takes time, so be patient with your pooch. Be attentive to their body language on whether they want you to snuggle with them, or if they need some time on their own.
  • Use comforting scents. A blanket or toy with the scent of their loved one can be soothing in their time of grief.
  • Keep your usual routine. Walk and feed your dog like you regularly do on a daily basis. Structure in your canine's day provides a sense of security and familiarity.
  • Make sure your dog is mentally and physically active. Expending energy through physical exercise helps relieve stress and lower anxiety. The same applies to mental stimulation using toys or lick mats.
  • Spend time with your fur baby. Extra snuggles and affection can be a wonderful comfort to your dog during this difficult time.

The Golden Retriever's parents are probably following these tips to help her through her bereavement - and maybe they'll even get her another kitten.
